National Russian Essay Contest

In November 2007 Forty-four IMSA Russian II and III students wrote essays on the topic “Why I Am Studying Russian” for the National Russian Essay Contest, sponsored by the American Council of Teachers of Russian. 1,515 students participated nationwide this year. All IMSA students were awarded medals and certificates. IMSA Russian II students received 23% of the gold medals at the Intermediate level and IMSA Russian III students received 20% of the gold medals awarded at the Advanced level! IMSA seniors Mivil Abraham, Marilyn Blasingame, Eric Hultgren, Philip Kuo, Cody Morrow, Jeffrey Narkis, Sabine Tegura, Bharat Vaitla, and Emily Zhao received medals in the second round of judging at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow.

IMSA is proud to have three Russian Scholar Laureates. Established in 2004 by the Board of Directors of the American Council of Teachers of Russian, the ACTR Russian Scholar Award provides an opportunity for schools and teachers of Russian to recognize one sophomore or junior each year as an outstanding Russian scholar.
