Why study Chinese? Well, why not?


Reason #1: With 1.3 billion people, China is the world's most populous country. Chinese is the language of nearly 1/4 of the world's population.

Reason #2: China currently boasts the fastest growing economy in the world and is set to become the world's next superpower.

Reason #3: China is one of America's largest trading partners. Many U.S. companies do business in China, and so being able to speak and understand the Chinese language will give you a competitive edge.

Reason #4: Chinese is one of the critical need foreign languages in President Bush's National Security Language Initiative for Americans.

Reason #5: China is one of the world's oldest civilizations, over 5000 years old. Learning the language is the key to explore and appreciate the cumulative knowledge and experience of one of the world's most exquisite cultures.

Reason #6: Traditional Chinese culture, from Confucianism and Chan Buddhism to martial arts and Chinese cuisine, has an enormous influence on the East and the Southeast Asian nations.
