Mathman

There was once a wealthy man, Rolle Converge, who was trying to prove that there was no limit to his wealth. He decided to run a perpetual party. He rented space for this continuous function to be held at The Salon owned by Jake Epp, in the neighborhood known as The Inteval. He fully expected the party to spread to the whole town. His good friend Mathman agreed to come to the party since he was looking forward to meeting Delta at the function. Rolle said that he wasn't sure that Delta would be at the party. Mathman knowingly replied, "Delta will certainly be there, because the function is continuous everywhere in The Interval and thus for any Epp's Salon there must be a Delta ..."

LETTER FROM THE EDITORS:

Welcome to the second issue of the IMSA Math Journal, an official publication of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. The purpose of the IMSAMJ is to communicate through mathematics with both students and teachers. Some of our goals include:

We have been encouraged by the support, kind words, and constructive suggestions we have received from a number of readers of our first issue of the IMSAMJ. We look forward to hearing from you and value your ideas, suggestions, criticisms. We would welcome your identification of issues, topics, etc. that you would like us to address in future issues and future IMSA mathematics publications. Also, we request that you take time to fill out the enclosed Feedback form (send us some e-mail --ed).

Teachers are encouraged to make copies of the IMSAMJ, or its articles, for students' use provide the name of the author and the IMSA logo are included. We would like to incorporate student articles, solutions to proposed problems and other works in the next issue. See the front cover for guidelines. Any submissions become the property of the IMSAMJ and are subject to editing and abstraction. None will be returned, so please keep a copy for yourself. Submissions must be received at least 60 days prior to publication in order to be considered for the next issue. Responses to this issue should be returned to us by January 15, 1994. Be sure to include your full name, affiliation, mailing address and status (teacher, student, . . .). If you are responding to a problem or particular article, make specific reference to the title, page and issue. We hope you will find enjoyable and worthwhile materials in our publication.
