Junior High Math Contest
The JHMC is an IMSA-sponsored math event for junior high students. Each year, participants from approximately 20 junior highs around the Aurora area test their skills on one fun-filled day each spring. There are both individual and team contests and a "creative thinking" challenge. Schools are divided into two divisions, and there are plenty of ribbons and trophies to go around.
We'd like to share some of our recent past exams. Questions are written and typed by IMSA students, with limited adult editing as needed. We don't claim that the exams are "perfect."
They may include a few bizarre problems or some that may not be entirely appropriate for their indicated grade. Some tests may be longer and harder than others. Still, students who come for our contest enjoy the opportunity to do a lot of interesting math problems. They find many good problems to challenge them.
With those disclaimers in mind, the individual and team contests from the last few years are available here for you to download. They are in Adobe Acrobat form, so they should be printable from any computer. You are welcome to use our contests or individual problems for practice - either for classes or individually - but we ask that these problems not be used for competitions, especially with anyone outside of your own school.
We hope you enjoy them.
Each test is designed to be 40 minutes in length.
