The curriculum in the IMSA Mathematics Department has been developed to serve a wide variety of Illinois's students. Since our students enter with different backgrounds, our programs have been designed to be entered at many different places. Our aim is to provide a rich learning environment fostering our philosophy that meaning is constructed by the learner with the teacher serving as a guide.
Placement tests determine where students begin in the curriculum. All students must complete Geometry and the Mathematical Investigations sequence before moving on to either the AB or a BC Calculus sequence. While students are required to continue to make progress through the core curriculum, they are encouraged to explore other areas of mathematics and computer science through our wide array of electives.
